Manchester Lumps Clinic is a specialised facility dedicated to providing expert assessment, diagnostics, and management for patients dealing with lumps. Our services extend to those experiencing unexplained joint pain or swelling, as well as addressing common lumps that may require removal.

Referrals

Manchester Lumps Clinic have an easy access referral policy for patients with a lump. Referral criteria may include any of the following:

  • Painful swelling, lump or joint
  • Increasing in size
  • Lump bigger than 5 cm
  • Deep lump or swelling
  • Recurrent lump from previous excision
  • History of cancer

We also see Suspected Sarcoma Referrals your GP may have made to the NHS.

Patients can self-refer or a GP referral can be sent to the team via our contact us page.

Orthopaedic Services

Mr Kumar is a specialist Hip and Knee Surgeon and is able to asses and offer treatment for common conditions including:

  • Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Knee
  • Hip and knee replacement including robotic-assisted surgery
  • Meniscal tears
  • Metastatic Bone Disease and review of bone lesions
  • Joint injections: Cortisone, viscosupplementation, PRP (Platelet rich plasma)

Meet the Team

Mr Amit Kumar

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Manchester Lumps Clinics is run by Mr Kumar, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with specialist interest in musculoskeletal oncology in particular soft tissue sarcomas.

He qualified at the Royal Free and University College London medical school in 2003 and undertook my early surgical training in the North West. His specialist post-graduate training in Trauma & Orthopaedics was in the East Midlands (South) T&O rotation.

He then completed fellowships in lower limb arthroplasty and sarcoma in Leicester, Nottingham and Wrightington hospitals.

Mr Jay Goswamy

Consultant ENT/Head, Neck and Thyroid Surgeon

Mr Jay Goswamy is an Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist interest in Head and Neck Oncology. This includes thyroid lumps, salivary disease, voice problems, breathing problems and swallowing problems. He is Clinical Director for Adult and Paediatric Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital and The Christie. 

Jay completed his ENT training in and around Manchester before moving to Guy’s and St Thomas’ to train in advanced cancer and thyroid surgery with ENT, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgeons. He has visited and learned from surgeons in Toronto, Melbourne, Auckland, Germany and Luxembourg. 

He enjoys his roles as Undergraduate Lead and Airway Surgery Lead and is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship Examination. In 2019 he founded the charity MENTORS (Manchester ENT Oncology Recovery Support).

Outside of work Jay enjoys physical challenges (he is always training for the next event), figurative painting and spending time with his family. He is married with 2 daughters and a cockapoo named Molly.

Dr Gulraiz Ahmad

Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist

Dr Gulraiz Ahmad is a fellowship-trained consultant musculoskeletal radiologist. Having completed his radiology training in Manchester, Dr Ahmad undertook a one-year fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at McGill University Hospital Center (MUHC) in Montreal, Canada.

During his fellowship, he gained extensive experience in multiple imaging modalities and image-guided procedures, particularly related to the diagnosis of soft tissue and bone tumours at MUHC, which is a regional orthopaedic oncology referral centre for the province of Quebec. He also gained extensive exposure to the imaging of trauma  and sports injuries, having had regular interaction with NHL ice hockey and Canadian football players, as well as College draft athletes.

Dr Ahmad was employed as a consultant radiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in 2020 and practices at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital. His current practice involves reviewing and reporting X-rays, CT and MRI scans. He also performs diagnostic ultrasound scans, as well as treating various joint and soft tissue disorders with image-guided intervention. He co-chairs the regional soft tissue and sarcoma MDT at Manchester Royal Infirmary, as well as the Greater Manchester & Oswestry sarcoma service MDT.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Dr Anand Kirwadi

Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist

Dr Anand Kirwadi specialises in musculoskeletal imaging of bone and soft tissue tumours rheumatological conditions and has a particular focus on sports injuries.

Alongside his private and NHS practices and Dr Kirwadi has a keen interest in research and teaching. He regularly writes and professionally reviews articles for medical journals and lectures in the UK and abroad, holding the title of Honorary Senior lecturer at both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. He is a specialist advisor to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) – Interventional Procedures Programme.

Dr Kirwadi also specialises in ultrasound guided joint and soft tissue injections (including steroids, high volume injection and barbotage), ultrasound guided PRP injections, image guided hydro dilatation (for frozen shoulder) and image guided ablation.
