Lipoma Removal

Smooth, raised bump on skin

Introduction

A lipoma is a common, non-cancerous (benign) growth of fatty tissue that develops just beneath the skin. While often harmless, many patients choose to have them removed due to discomfort, unsightly appearance, or simply for peace of mind.

At the Manchester Lumps Clinic, we specialise in the rapid assessment, diagnosis, and surgical removal of lipomas. Whether you have a single lump or multiple lipomas, our consultant-led team ensures expert care from your initial consultation through to post-surgical recovery.

Why Choose Private Lipoma Removal?

Patients often visit us because their lipoma is:

  • Increasing in size or becoming noticeable.
  • Causing pain, irritation, or pressing on nerves.
  • Located in a visible area (arms, legs, neck, or forehead).
  • Affecting confidence or daily activities.

Our Treatment Pathway

1. Specialist Consultation & Diagnosis

Your journey begins with a professional assessment by our consultant specialist. We perform a thorough clinical examination to confirm the diagnosis.

Rapid Diagnostics: Most lumps under 5cm are diagnosed clinically. If your lump is large (>5cm) or deep, we can arrange immediate ultrasound or MRI imaging with our specialist radiologists to confirm the nature of the lump before removal.

2. Surgical Lipoma Removal

If the lump is bothering you, surgical excision is the most effective treatment.

  • The Procedure: Lipomas are typically removed under local anaesthetic (you remain awake but numb) as a day-case procedure.
  • Technique: We use precision techniques to remove the entire fatty lump to prevent recurrence.
  • Scarring: great care is taken to minimise scarring, with stitches typically removed after 7-10 days.

Book Your Consultation

Don’t wait for a lump to get bigger. Manchester Lumps Clinic offers a “one-stop” rapid diagnostic service.

  • Self-Pay Patients: We offer transparent pricing for consultation and surgery. Costs vary depending on the size and location of the lipoma and the anaesthetic required.
  • Insured Patients: We work with major insurance providers.

Is it Cancerous?

Lipomas are benign. However, for complete peace of mind, all excised lumps are sent to a histopathologist for analysis. This confirms the diagnosis and ensures no atypical cells are present. We communicate these results to you directly at your follow-up appointment.
